I have been distracted – in a world that is seemingly about to implode, when people are taking to the streets and fighting for their rights or in some cases just fighting, and when the news sounds like a daily dose of toxicity it is difficult to look up and smell the roses. But despite the headlines, beyond the sound bites we are surrounded by beauty - nature still rules, fuelling our bodies and our spirits and so this month I’m giving it up to the Mother.
Our Gorgeous Treat will give you a shot of adrenaline with a major dose of the powerful Ganoderma mushroom – regular coffee will never be enough again. Our Gorgeous Girl is in the business of beauty and she understands that it glows from the inside out. And my Lust of the Month is a little bottle of oil that infuses the hair with goodness creating smoother, shinier, stronger hair – naturally.
I’m a supplement girl, I just don’t think that I can get all the nutrients I need to feel great, rather than just ok if I also want to live in a big city and pack as much as I can into life but for the past couple of months I have been experimenting with different sources with the emphasis on balancing out rather than just adding to, so I turned to Jing Herbs The Goddess pack is designed to enhance inner and outer beauty using a blend of three Chinese herbal formulas. It contains familiar herbs like He Shou Wu, famous for nourishing hair and less familiar Pearl Powder that helps ground the spirit. I also used the Ginseng and Longan formula – a classic Chinese tonic that helps to restore the spleen energy, improving digestion and counterbalancing the effects of stress. Although the Chinese medicinal system has always resonated with me, I must say that I did not anticipate noticing any significant changes – but I did! Two weeks in and my digestive system seemed much calmer as did my mind. I just felt as if I was breathing really good quality air all the time even in the midst of city. The ultimate chill pills!
If Chinese is not your thing then check out one of my favourite brands The Organic Pharmacy for some extra support their Essential Fatty Acid + B Complex contains all of those great Omega’s plus fairly serious doses of the vital B’s – the vitamins responsible for forming red blood cells, providing energy and lowering stress. Because in nourishes the skin too, this is the prefect formula for stressed out, dehydrated city dwellers with too many things and not enough nutrition of their plates!
If you’re determined to get everything you need from your food, then you’ll need to focus on nutrient rich, super foods from Kale and Asparagus to mushrooms and blueberries. Drink Green tea, Aloe vera juice and Coconut water. Try and eat as much organic, locally sourced and seasonal food as possible, especially when it comes to meat and things that are grown in the soil. Variety is key, think in terms of a weekly rather than a daily menu to try and cover as much ground as possible. Never eat things that you hate but don’t eat things just because you love them. They need to love you back!
