The sun has got his hat on and so should we, or at least find some over way of getting some shade whilst enjoying the benefits of all that wonderful vitamin D. It's time to go out and buy some sunscreen because last years bottles will be null and void and anyway there are some great new options on the market.
This months Gorgeous Girl is walking the philanthropic walk all the way to Goa where she looks hot and stays cool in her ethical beach wear. My Lust of the Month is another great Japanese export that my skin is loving and This Month Gorgeous Treat is more of the metabolism boosting, muscle toning supplement that will help to shape things up.
The great sunscreen debate is hotting up and when it comes to covering up there are a few basic facts. The rate of skin cancer is growing most rapidly in developed countries where use of sunscreen is most prevalent. A limited amount of direct sunshine is good for you, it is the best source of vitamin D which boosts our immune systems, helps build bones and uplifts our spirits. I stand on my balcony without shade or screen for a few minutes every morning and just soak it in.
The best sun protection comes in the form of hats, sunglasses and clothing but that does not mean that sunscreens do not have there place, I wear my Keys Solar Rx daily, but not all sunscreens are created equally. The two major issues are the chemicals that so many contain and the false sense of security that they give. Choose a chemical free sunscreen and remember to reapply frequently, on average your sunscreen is most effective for a couple of hours so if you apply at 8am don't think it's ok to spend your entire lunch hour topping up your tan. When shopping for this years latest and greatest make sure that your product has both UVB and UVA protection (UVA is the big ageing and cancer culprit); don't be too concerned about the SPF (Sun protection factor) number, there is very little difference in actual protection between an SPF 15 and and SPF 50 and numbers beyond that cannot be substantiated.
